1 Peter 2:6 – “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.”
I. Our Lord Jesus Christ is a Living Stone. (1 Peter 2:4)
II. In Christ we also are lively (living) stones. (1 Peter 2:5)
1 Peter 2:6 – “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.”
I. Our Lord Jesus Christ is a Living Stone. (1 Peter 2:4)
II. In Christ we also are lively (living) stones. (1 Peter 2:5)
I. Our Lord Jesus Christ is a Living Stone.
1 Peter 2:4 – “To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and
precious.”
A. A Living Stone disallowed of men.
1 Peter 2:4 – “To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God,
and precious.”
1 Peter 2:7 – “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the
stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner.”
B. A Living Stone chosen (elect) of God (the Father).
1 Peter 2:4 – “To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and
precious.”
1 Peter 2:6-7 – “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner
stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which
believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the
same is made the head of the corner.”
Isaiah 28:16 – “Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a
tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.”
C. A Living Stone precious to believers.
1 Peter 2:4 – “To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and
precious.”

elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which
believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the

D. A Living Stone of judgment unto unbelievers.
1 Peter 2:7-8 – “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient,
the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, and a stone of
stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient:
whereunto also they were appointed.”
Isaiah 8:13-15 – “Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the
houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And many among them
shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.”
II. In Christ we also are lively (living) stones.
1 Peter 2:4-5 – “To whom coming, as unto a living stone, . . . ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual
house, an holy priesthood . . . . “
A. Lively stones through faith in Christ as Savior.

1 Peter 2:6-7 – “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone,
elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which
believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the
same is made the head of the corner.”
B. Lively stones having obtained saving mercy from God.
1 Peter 2:10 – “Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not
obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
C. Lively stones having been called out of darkness unto God’s marvelous light.
1 Peter 2:9 – “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that
ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”
Colossians 1:12-13 – “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the
inheritance of the saints in light: who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath
translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”
D. Lively stones being made a chosen generation of God.
1 Peter 2:9-10 – “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar
people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his
marvellous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not
obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
Colossians 1:12-13 – “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the
inheritance of the saints in light: who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated
us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”
E. Lively stones being built up a spiritual house in Christ.
1 Peter 2:4-5 – “To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God,
and precious, ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up
spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”
Colossians 2:6-7 – “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: rooted and
built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
F. Lively stones to show forth the praises of the Lord our God.
1 Peter 2:5 – “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up
spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 2:9 – “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that
ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”
Romans 12:1 – “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
Hebrews 13:15-16 – “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is,
the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for
with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”
G. Lively stones to abstain from the lusts of our sinful flesh.
1 Peter 2:11 – “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts,
which war against the soul.”
