For God Is My King of Old – Psalm 74:12-17

Psalm 74 can be divided into three divisions:
              I.  The Complaint of a Troubled Heart (Psalm 74:1-11)
             II.  The Turning Point of a Confident Faith (Psalm 74:12-17)
            III.  The Cry of a Trusting Heart (Psalm 74:18-23)

Under the second division, we find great truth concerning who our Lord God is and what our Lord God does, con-cerning His character and His conduct.

The Turning Point of a Confident Faith

1.  The Lord God Is Sovereign.

Psalm 74:12a – “For God is my King of old.”

2.  The Lord God Is Eternal.

Psalm 74:12a – “For God is my King of old.”

3.  The Lord God Is Personal.

Psalm 74:12a – “For God is my King of old.”

4.  The Lord God Is Almighty.

Psalm 74:13a – “Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength.”

5.  The Lord God Works Salvation.

Psalm 74:12 – “For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.”

6.  The Lord God Divides.

Psalm 74:13a – “Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength.”

7.  The Lord God Brakes.

Psalm 74:13b-14a – “Thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.  Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces.”

8.  The Lord God Provides.

Psalm 74:14b – “And gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.”

9.  The Lord God Removes.

Psalm 74:15 – “Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.”

10.  The Lord God Possesses.

Psalm 74:16a – “The day is thine, the night also is thine.”

11.  The Lord God Creates.

Psalm 74:16b – “Thou hast prepared the light and the sun.”

12.  The Lord God Governs.

Psalm 74:17 – “Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.”
