Psalm 92:1-5 reads, “A Psalm or Song for the sabbath day. It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: to shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands. O LORD, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep.”

I. The Responsibility to Give Thanks and Praise unto Our Lord.
Psalm 92:1 – “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most
High.”
A. It is good and righteous before our Lord. (See Psalm 32:11; 68:3-4; 97:12)
B. It is good and pleasant unto our Lord. (See Psalm 33:1; 135:1-3; 147:1)
II. The Reason for Giving Thanks and Praise unto Our Lord.
Psalm 92:1-2 – “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most
High: to shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.”
A. For His lovingkindness. (See Psalm 63:3-4)
B. For His faithfulness. (See Lamentations 3:23)
III. The Renewal of Giving Thanks and Praise unto Our Lord.
Psalm 92:1-2 – “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most
High: to shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night.”
A. The priority of this responsibility – “in the morning.” (See Psalm 145:1-3)
B. The continuance of this responsibility – unto “every night.” (See Ephesians 5:20; Hebrews 13:15; Psalm
71:14-15)
IV. The Reality of Giving Thanks and Praise unto Our Lord.
Psalm 92:3 – “. . . Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn
sound.”
A. With seriousness of thought. (See Psalm 63:5-6)
B. With sincerity of heart. (See Psalm 9:1-2; 86:12-13; 111:1; 119:7)
V. The Relationship in Giving Thanks and Praise unto Our Lord.
Psalm 92:4-5 – “For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy
hands. O LORD, how great are thy works! And thy thoughts are very deep.”
A. He defends us from the oppression of the wicked.
Psalm 92:6-9, 11 – “A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. When the wicked
spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for
ever: but thou, LORD, art most high for evermore. For, lo, thine enemies, O LORD, for, lo, thine enemies
shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered . . . . Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine
enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.”
B. He blesses us who walk faithfully in His righteousness.
Psalm 92:10, 12-15 – “But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with
fresh oil . . . . The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still
bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; to shew that the LORD is upright: he is my
rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.”
