Outlines in Psalms
“Praise ye the LORD.”
1. We are to praise the Lord our God because it is good, pleasant, and beautiful.
Psalm 147:1 – “Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.”
A. Good – It is the way righteousness before the Lord our God.
B. Pleasant – It will bring pleasure and joy to our hearts and lives.
C. Comely – It will produce an attractive testimony before others.
2. We are to praise the Lord our God with a heart of thanksgiving and song.
Praise 147:7 – “Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God.”
Ephesians 5:18-20 – “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Colossians 3:16-17 – “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
Hebrews 13:15 – “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”
3. We are to praise the Lord our God, that is – we who are His own people.
Psalm 147:12 – “Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.”
1 Peter 2:9-10 – “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
