Parental Discipline without Self-Discipline

Thought for Meditation

Parents who lack self-discipline generally do a poor job in the discipline of their children;
for they lack the personal discipline
to observe their children's behavior closely
(because they are too busy with their own things),
to discipline wrong behavior immediately
(because they are too lazy to engage in the work of discipline),
and to engage in discipline consistently
(because they are too governed by personal emotion than by Biblical principle).

Ephesians 6:4
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath:
but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord
.

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:15
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child;
but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him
.

Proverbs 13:24
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Proverbs 29:15
The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

Proverbs 19:18
Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

Proverbs 23:13-14
Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God
with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children,
and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up
.

Luke 16:10
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much:
and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much
.
