Personal Comfort or Godly Character

Thought for Meditation

When we are suffering under fiery trial and fierce tribulation,
we must ever remember that the Lord our God is far more concerned
with our growth in godly character than with our participation in personal comfort.

1 Peter 1:6-7
Wherein ye greatly rejoice,
though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
that the trial of your faith,
being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire,
might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ
.

1 Peter 4:12-14
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you,
as though some strange thing happened unto you:
but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings;
that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye;
for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you:
on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified
.

1 Peter 5:10-11
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus,
after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen
.

James 1:2-3
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience
.

2 Corinthians 12:7-10
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations,
there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me,
lest I should be exalted above measure.
For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee:
for my strength is made perfect in weakness.
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities,
that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions,
in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong
.

Romans 5:3-5
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also:
knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts
by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us
.

Psalm 66:10-12
For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water:
but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place
.

Isaiah 48:10
Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
