1. The Wisdom of God’s Word Is Better
Proverbs 3:13-18 – “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.”
Proverbs 8:11 – “For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.”
Proverbs 8:17-21 – “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: that I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.”
Proverbs 16:16 – “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!”
2. The Way of Biblical Humility Is Better
Proverbs 12:9 – “He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.”
Proverbs 16:18-20 – “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.”
Proverbs 25:6-7 – “Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: for better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.”
3. The Walk of True Righteousness Is Better
Proverbs 15:16 – “Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.”
Proverbs 16:7-8 – “When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.”
Proverbs 19:1-2 – “Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.”
Proverbs 19:22 – “The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.”
Proverbs 28:5-6 – “Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things. Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.”
4. The Wealth of Godly Love Is Better
Proverbs 15:17-18 – “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith. A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.”
Proverbs 16:32 – “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”
Proverbs 17:1 – “Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.”
Proverbs 27:5-6 – “Open rebuke is better than secret love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”
Proverbs 27:9-10 – “Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel. Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.”
Proverbs 3:13-18 – “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
