1. The fear of the Lord is the foundation for spiritual knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
Proverbs 1:7a – “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.
Proverbs 9:10 – “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understand-ing.”
Proverbs 15:33a – “The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom.”
2. Spiritual fools by definition reject the fear of the Lord and hate the spiritual knowledge, wisdom, and instruction that comes therein.
Proverbs 1:7 – “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Proverbs 1:29 – “For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD.”
3. Searching after and submitting to the truth and authority of God’s Word is the way to walk in the fear of the Lord.
Proverbs 2:1-5 – “My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; so that thou in-cline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; if thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.”
4. The fear of the Lord and the fellowship of the Lord are inseparably unified.
Proverbs 2:5 – “Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.”
5. The fear of the Lord is the opposite of being wise in our own eyes, and is inseparably unified with Biblical humility.
Proverbs 3:7 – “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.”
Proverbs 22:4 – “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.”
6. The fear of the Lord will move us to despise, depart from, and repent of the way of evil.
Proverbs 3:7b – “Fear the LORD, and depart from evil.”
Proverbs 8:13 – “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”
Proverbs 14:16 – “A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.”
Proverbs 16:6 – “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.”
Proverbs 23:17 – “Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.”
Proverbs 28:13-14 – “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.”
7. The fear of the Lord is inseparably unified with Biblical obedience and uprightness.
Proverbs 13:13 – “Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.”
Proverbs 14:2a – “He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways de-spiseth him.”
8. The fear of the Lord is the way of spiritual confidence, protection, satisfaction, honor, and blessing.
Proverbs 10:27 – “The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.”
Proverbs 13:13b – “But he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.”
Proverbs 14:26-27 – “In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”
Proverbs 15:16 – “Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.”
Proverbs 19:23 – “The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.”
Proverbs 22:4 – “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.”
9. We should teach our children to walk in the fear of the Lord throughout their entire lives.
Proverbs 23:15-17 – “My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things. Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.”
Proverbs 24:21-22 – “ My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: for their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?”
10. A woman who walks in the fear of the Lord is worthy of praise.
Proverbs 31:30 – “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”
