Outlines in Psalms
This outline is a companion to a previous outline: O God, Why - Psalm 74
In that time of the Old Testament, the enemies for the Israelites were the foreign nations around them, that were attacking and afflicting them. In this time of the New Testament, the primary enemy for us believers is not a “flesh and blood enemy,” but is our spiritual adversary the devil, who “as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” spiritually. (See Ephesians 6:11-12; 1 Peter 5:8)
The Introduction:
Psalm 74:3 – “Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.”

The Introduction:
Psalm 74:3 – “Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.”
I. The enemy has defeated God’s people – the people who the Lord has redeemed for an
inheritance unto Himself.
Psalm 74:4 – “Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.”
II. The enemy has defiled God’s sanctuary – the place that the Lord has chosen for the glory of His
name.
Psalm 74:5-7 – “A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees [to adorn God’s
sanctuary]. But now they break down the carved work thereof [of God’s sanctuary] at once with axes and
hammers. They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy
name to the ground.”
III. The enemy has destroyed God’s synagogues – the platform (pulpit) that was established for the
proclamation of God’s truth.
Psalm 74:8 – “They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the
synagogues of God in the land.”
The Conclusion:
Psalm 74:9 – “We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.”
