Proverbs for Life
A proverb is a short, pithy saying that expresses a significant, substantial truth for life. In the book of the Proverbs, the actual compilation of proverbial statements begins with chapter 10 and extends to the end of the book. In the following series of posts, I wish to present those proverbial statements that specifically mention our relationship with the Lord. Certainly, every proverb of God’s Holy Word concerns our relationship with the Lord our God; for every proverb concerns the character of our walk before Him. Yet the following list of proverbial statements make specific mention of the Lord and of our relationship to Him.
Proverbs 10:3 – “The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.”
Proverbs 10:22 – “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.”
Proverbs 10:27 – “The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.”
Proverbs 10:29 – “The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.”
Proverbs 11:1 – “A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.”
Proverbs 11:20 – “They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.”
Proverbs 12:2 – “A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.”
Proverbs 12:22 – “Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.”
Proverbs 14:2 – “He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.”
Proverbs 14:26-27 – “In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”
Proverbs 14:31 – “He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.”
