When God Speaks Concerning A Nation - Jeremiah 18:7-17

Meditations in Jeremiah
Jeremiah 18:7-8

At what instant I shall speak
concerning a nation,
and concerning a kingdom,

to pluck up, and to pull down,
and to destroy it;

if that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil,

I will repent of the evil
[judgment]
that I thought to do unto them.
Jeremiah 18:9-10

And at what instant I shall speak
concerning a nation,
and concerning a kingdom,

to build and to plant it;

if it do evil in my sight,
that it obey not my voice,

then I will repent of the good, where-with I said I would benefit them.
Jeremiah 18:11-12

Now therefore go to,
speak to the men of Judah, and
to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD;

I frame evil
[judgment] against you,
and devise a device against you;

return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways
and your doings good
.

And they said, There is no hope:
but we will walk
after our own devices,
and we will every one do
the imagination of his evil heart.

Jeremiah 18:17

I will scatter them as with
an east wind before the enemy;
I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity
.
Has the Lord our God spoken good (blessing - "to build and to plant") or evil (judgment - "to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy") concerning our nation?

Is our nation doing evil (wickedness) in our Lord's sight, in refusing to obey His Word of righteousness?

Is the Lord our God calling our nation to repent and turn from its evil (wicked) ways and doings, and to make its ways and doing good before the Lord?

Is our nation rebelling against the Lord's gracious call, stubbornly choosing to walk after its own evil ways?

Are you yourself doing evil (wickedness) in the Lord's sight, in disobeying His Word of righteousness, whether in attitude, word, or conduct?

Do you yourself need to repent humbly before the Lord and turn from your evil (wicked) ways and doings?

Do you yourself need to make your ways and doings good and righteous before the Lord your God?

Are you yourself stubbornly and rebelliously choosing to walk after the selfish imagination of your own evil (wicked, ungodly) heart?
