When We Commit Sin

Thought for Meditation

When we commit sin against the Lord our God (regardless of the form that it might take),
it is recorded in our Lord's sight as a wicked offense;
it stirs up the fire of our Lord's anger against us;
it stains our soul with disgusting filthiness;
it poisons our character with spiritual corruption;
it binds our heart more and more under the influence of our flesh and the devil;
and it nourishes more and more the seeds of spiritual destruction in our lives.

Psalm 51:4
Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:
that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest
.

James 4:4
Ye adulterers and adulteresses,
know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?
Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God
.

Psalm 38:1-8
O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.
There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger;
neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.
For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.
I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart
.

James 1:21a
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness.

Psalm 53:3
Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy;
there is none that doeth good, no, not one
.

Isaiah 1:4-6
Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger,
they are gone away backward.
Why should ye be stricken any more? Ye will revolt more and more:
the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it;
but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores:
they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment
.

Proverbs 5:22-23
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself,
and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray
.

James 1:14-15
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:
and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death
.
